Brandon and I decided we needed to take Baylee to the vet
because we’ve been noticing that she loses her balance on her back legs often
and they slip out from underneath her. I noticed it first a couple months ago, and
Brandon noticed last week that she wasn’t using one of her back legs with every
step. We were thinking that she maybe had hip dysplasia. Well, after visiting
our vet on Wednesday, she thinks Baylee has peripheral neuropathy caused by
axonal degeneration. She compared it to ALS in humans. After our vet did some
more research, she called me yesterday. She said that when we notice that it
becomes painful for her, she will give us a prescription, and also talked about
where we can get a cart when Baylee loses function of her back legs. She will
eventually also lose control of her bodily functions. We love our Bug
immensely, but when it comes to the point where her quality of life is poor, we
will not let her suffer. Progression is individual, but we likely have less
than 6 months with her. Cue the sobbing.
